Circumcision

PATIENT ADVICE LEAFLET FOLLOWING CIRCUMCISION

Circumcision is an operation to remove most of the foreskin

During the procedure you will have had a local anaesthetic nerve block inserted. This will alleviate the pain and discomfort for a few hours after the operation.

The incision will be around the shaft of the penis near the head of the penis.
All your sutures will dissolve.

Experiencing some swelling after the operation is not uncommon and should not alarm you.

Remember you have had a general anaesthetic.

DOs

  • Contacts the hospital immediately if you find you cannot urinate or there is excessive bleeding or you have severe pain
  • Take your prescribed painkillers or Paracetamol if required. You may feel some soreness following your procedure
  • Have a daily bath or shower
  • Apply the hydrocortisone cream if prescribed twice a day
  • Resume work when fit to do so
