Flexicystoscopy
Cystoscopy is an endoscopic procedure to examine the inside of the bladder.
A flexible cystoscope uses a bendy telescope.
Your operation will be carried out under a local anaesthetic. Local anaesthetic gel is administered up the urethra prior to passing the cystoscope.
DOs
- Contact the hospital immediately if you find you cannot urinate or you are bleeding excessively or you have severe pain or a high temperature
- Take your prescribed painkillers or Paracetamol as instructed. You may feel tender and sore following your operation
- If you are given antibiotics to take home, please complete the course of tablets
- Drink plenty of fluids. 2-3 litres a day will suffice. Occasionally you may have a little blood in your urine which needs to be flushed through
- Have a daily bath or shower
- You can drive straight away after the cystoscopy
- Resume work when fit to do so
