Ewing Urology Team

Various consultant colleagues assist Mr Ewing in providing the full urological service to his patients. Mr Ewing would like to introduce:

Dr Andrew Hindle

Consultant Anaesthetist

Dr Andrew HindleDr Andrew Hindle works in the private sector and in the National Health Service. He qualified at the Manchester University Medical School in 1987 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1992. Subsequently he became a lecturer in the University Department of Anaesthesia at Leeds where he was involved in research as well as teaching medical students and junior anaesthetists. He was appointed as a consultant in 1997 at Warrington Hospital. Once there he developed the hospital pain service and is currently the clinical lead in this area. He is an honorary lecturer at Liverpool University.

He has experience in all aspects of anaesthesia and care of the critically ill. He provides an integrated service including spinal and epidural anaesthesia as well as peripheral nerve blocks.

He regularly attends national and international meetings and also publishes articles in international scientific journals and leading anaesthetic text books.

His mission statement is ‘I believe that the prevention and control of pain and nausea following surgery improves recovery, reduces complications and shortens hospital stay for all patients’

Dr Galal Salem

Consultant Anaesthetist

Dr Galal SalemDr Galal Salem has been a Consultant Anaesthetist since 1985 and has anaesthetised for Mr Ewing since 1986.  He has had specialist training in all aspects of anaesthesia including Obstetric Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Paediatrics, ICU, Acute and Chronic Pain Relief.

He has expertise in regional analgesia including spinal, epidural and peripheral nerve blocks for post-operative pain relief.  He works closely with Bob and the team to develop the best techniques for the patient’s comfort, safety and rapid recovery.  He has had a considerable number of scientific papers published in reputable medical journals.

He developed an interest in Sports Medicine after being a member of the Egyptian National Gymnastics team when he was younger.

Dr Gary Williams

Consultant Radiologist

Dr Gary WilliamsDr Gary Rosbotham-Williams qualified in Medicine at Liverpool University in 1991.  He then began specialist training in Medical Imaging and became a Consultant Radiologist in 1999.  He  works at Spire Cheshire Hospital and at Halton/Warrington Hospitals for the NHS.  Gary performs a wide range of radiological examinations, including IVU, ultrasound, CT and MRI and has a particular interest in Urological Imaging, working closely with Mr Ewing in the investigation of Urological problems.

Gary is also involved in continuing audit and research projects and has a large teaching commitment to medical students and junior doctors.

In his spare time Gary is an elite cyclist and has represented Great Britain at many International competitions including the Paralympic Games in Athens in 2004.

Dr Tom Houghton

Consultant Radiologist

Dr Tom HoughtonDr Tom Houghton qualified at Oxford in 1984, and after working in Truro, Oxford and Middlesbrough trained in Radiology in Mersey Region. He spent nine years as a Consultant Radiologist in Halton Hospital, Runcorn, and moved to Wigan as a Consultant in 2001. His specialist interest at Wigan is Interventional Radiology, involving mostly urological and vascular work. At Spire Cheshire Hospital he performs diagnostic studies, mainly urinary tract ultrasound and intravenous urography.

Dr Douglas Errington

Consultant Radiotherapist

Dr Douglas ErringtonDr. Doug Errington works in the National Health Service and private sector.
He graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital, University of London in 1973 with a first class honours BSc, LRCP, MRCS, MB, BS. After some work in paediatrics (DCH, 1976) he started his career in clinical oncology at the Hammersmith Hospital, London (1976 – 1983, DMRT and FRCR)

Dr. Errington was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool and Consultant in Clinical Oncology at the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology in 1983. In addition to a general oncology workload he led national and international clinical research in particle beam radiotherapy between 1983 and 1995. His work with proton beam radiotherapy for eye tumours continues.

Dr. Errington has experience of all aspects of clinical oncology with his clinical and educational work being recognised locally, nationally and internationally.

Tumour site specialist expertise is now based in all aspects of the management of urological cancer where Dr. Errington works closely with Dr. Peter Clark, Consultant Medical Oncologist.

Dr. Errington also specialises in the management of breast cancer, head and neck cancer, ocular tumours and soft tissue malignancies as well as urological cases.

Dr Peter Clark

Consultant Oncologist

Dr Peter ClarkDr Clark (MA MD FRCP) is a Consultant Medical Oncologist based at Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology but who does clinics in Liverpool and The Spire Cheshire. He has been a consultant since 1989 and has a particular interest in urological malignancy. He specialises in the management of testicular cancer and in the chemotherapy of bladder and prostate cancers. He is passionate about offering patients the opportunity of having chemotherapy as close to their homes as possible.

Dr Clark has a major interest in equity of access of cancer patients to treatments and clinical trials. He sits on the committee at the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence which appraises new drugs and cancer drugs in particular. He is Co-chairman with the National Cancer Director of the National Chemotherapy Advisory Group to the Department of Health and is Director of the Merseyside and Cheshire Cancer Research Network.

Outside medicine he is currently planting a vineyard on the Wirral and expects his first bottle before 2012.
